| Tier 1 General or Tier 1 Highly Skilled Visa for the UK |
|
Tier 1 General or Tier 1 Highly Skilled Visa has replaced old HSMP or Highly Skilled Migrant Programme in 2008 when the Points Based Immigration System for the UK was implemented.
Tier 1 General or Tier 1 Highly Skilled application from outside the UK is to be made at the British High Commission or British Embassy / Consulate and accordingly Entry Clearance applications under Tier 1 General are to be submitted at VFS in India for those applying from India.
Tier 1 General for Highly Skilled scheme awards points for your age, education, earnings and UK experience (which are called your personal attributes) and you have to score 75 points for these attributes. The most important requirement is that you must have a Master’s Degree equivalent to Master’s degree from the UK and then only you would be eligible to apply.
Under Tier 1 general scheme you are also required to demonstrate your knowledge of English Language by an IELTS score of 6.5 or if you have completed your bachelor’s or master’s degree through English as Medium of Instruction and if your university is included in online database of the Home Office. If you meet this requirement, you will be able to score 10 points.
You are also expected to demonstrate that you have appropriate amount of maintenance fund with you continuously for past 3 months before you submit the application. As of now, the requirement is ₤2,800 for the main applicant and ₤1,600 for each dependant.
